Thursday 5th May

Here is the evaluation presentation of our horror film opening.

Wednesday 4th May

On Thursday 4th May, we uploaded our horror movie opening to Youtube.com to see what people think of it and how we could make it better. Hayley also burnt the preliminary task and the horror opening onto a DVD.

Wednesday 27th April

On Wednesday 27th April, we made the finishing touches to our horror movie opening. We made sure that everything made sense and ran smoothly, and checked that the music used is in the right place in specific places to build up tension and have a more dramatic affect overall. Our opening lasts for 1 minute 57 seconds, but as it should be 2 minutes long, we spoke to out teacher and he said that this would be fine as it is not massively under the required time. All we have left to do now is to burn it on to a disc and print the title onto a DVD disk to make it look more professional.

Wednesday 6th April

On Wednesday 6th April, we looked on the internet for some music that was not copyrighted to use over the top of our 'happy couple' scene. We found a website called Danosongs.com and he writes music and sings. We found a piece of music which went perfectly with out opening and decided to use that.

Wednesday 30th March

As we still needed to film the last bit of our opening, I went to Jamie's house and I filmed him walking down the stairs, into the kitchen and opening a draw and taking out a knife and then leaving the house to go am meet Scarlett (myself) at the park. I filmed a lot off different shots using different angles and interesting framing. For example, I did a shot of him walking out of the drive way and up the street. I really like this shot because you can see the whole of him, then when he gets closer, it is a close up of his feet, and as he gets further away, you can see all of him again. I will upload this footage onto the Macs with Hayley on Thursday 31st March, ready to edit  the final bits together.

Wednesday 30th March

Today in our media lesson, we downloaded the new footage onto the Macs and then began to edit it together it together. We put together the first part of it, (Scarlett and Jamie showing the reality of a happy relationship) and also put some titles into it. We used the sequence of MirrorMask titles as Leanne had already looked at the opening credits of that on her blog. Next we are going to find some pop type music from the internet which is not copyright to use over the top of our 'happy couple' scene. We can already see improvements with the continuity.

29th March 2011

Today, as we needed to re-film, myself and Hayley went out of school in a media lesson and to my house to film some new footage. We filmed an establishing shot of my house from outside, and then inside, we filmed myself sending a text saying 'We need to talk. Meet me at 12 at Pleasure Park tomorrow.x' using different angles. We also filmed Hayley's phone receiving the text as the audience would not know that this was not Ben's phone.

27th March 2011

After editing more of our opening, and also having a  cat with our teacher about continuity, we decided that we were going to re-film out horror film to make it easier for ourselves, and also to make it a more scary build up to the opening. We decided that we would take out some of the characters because this would make it more easier to edit together. We also decided that we would change the names as this would make it easier and less confusing for us. We are now using our real names (Scarlett and Jamie).

Our new idea has not changed much, but what has changed in the plot is
Scarlett (myself) and Jamie are in what seems like a happy relationship to Jamie, Scarlett then breaks up with Jamie and then we continue with the original idea of Jamie then turning crazy and killing Scarlett's friends and family and then eventually her.

Beginning to Edit

On Wednesday 16th March, we started to edit together the opening. We found it okay, but we had a bit of trouble because we noticed that  piece of the footage was blurry, to we overcame this problem by adding in an effect to make it look like it was supposed to be. Also, Hayley had an idea to use jump cuts showing Ben (Connor) and Ellie (myself) all the way through to keep the audience in suspense.

Moving to Post Production

Now that we have all of out footage uploaded onto the Macs, we can now move onto the post production stage of the horror movie opening. All together, out footage is about 11 minutes long. We will need help with putting the music over the top, but to do this, we will use Garrageband. We will also need to enhance sounds to help to create tension.

Props used

Here are the props that we used for our opening:

This is the cork board that we used for Connor to stab into. The photographs include different characters from the opening at different times.

This is the knife that Ben (Connor) stabbed into the photographs with.

All Footage Downloaded

To make sure that the footage was ready to be edited on the macs, Myself and Leanne went to go and put on the last bits of footage. Now, we have all of the footage downloaded that we need for the opening two minutes, we are ready to start the post production stage.

Final Filming.

As all of the footage for our horror film has to be downloaded, ready for editing by the first day we go back to school, we decided to film the last bits of our footage on Monday 28th February. So I printed out the photos and pinned them onto the corkboard so that they were ready to be stabbed. As Hayley was busy and we did not need all of the cast to film this part, Leanne and Connor came to my house at 3pm to film the last bits.

Half Term Filming.

As we could not get the filming done for the week before we broke up for half term, because of the weather and people being ill, we decided to film the rest of our footage in the half term.So we booked out a camera and tripod on Friday 18th February. We did not have much left to film and so we decided to do this on Monday 28th February.

Filming Postponed.

Friday 4th February we decided that we would book out the camera and tripod so that we could film on Sunday  6th February, so before we did this, we asked all of the cast if the were available to film, and everyone was, except from one of the main actors, Connor, who plays Ben. Obviously, we couldn't film on Sunday, so we decided on filming another day when everybody was free.

Downloading Footage onto the Macs

On Friday 28th January, we downloaded the footage filmed in town onto the macs, ready for editing. The footage that we downloaded was 2 minutes and 29 seconds from 31 clips. We decided that this is not going to be enough footage to use when editing it together, so we are going to extend the length of the other scenes to make it longer.

Sunday 16th January

On Sunday 16th January, the cast for our opening two minutes all met up in town and we filmed the shots in town. We had difficulties with filming. the difficulties were that because we were in town, people kept walking into the shot and there was background noise from cars going past which meant we could not hear the dialogue as clear. However, town was not very busy and this made it easier than if it was very busy. We filmed shots from different angles so that once we get to the editing stage, we have lots of footage to choose from. This will make it easier for us as we will not have to go and film again. We plan to do more shots at a later date of when Ellie and her friends get ready for the party.

Sunday 9th January

We were going to film on Sunday 9th January but, we forgot to get the camera out from school, so we now plan to film the town shots on Sunday 16th January instead. Once we have filmed, we can then put our footage onto the Macs so that it is ready to be edited together.

Filming

As our opening 2 minutes have to be filmed by the end of February, we need to sort out when everyone is able to film. We were not able to film in the Christmas holidays because of the snow and ice, which is not in our scene, the Christmas decorations were still up in town and they are not part of the Mise-en-Scene.

Casting

We have now sorted finalised who is in the casting for our open scene. the people that we have chosen to include in it are:

  • Myself as Ellie (a bubbly, confident and heartless person)
  • Jamie Reed as Matt (a funny, friendly and smart person)
  • Connor Hobbs as Ben (a short tempered, mysterious and twisted person)
  • Hayley Bell as Friend #1 (a happy, sociable and sensible person)
  • Natasha Weldon as Friend #2 (a loud, sociable and bubbly person)
  • Ellie Markie as Friend #3 (a trustworthy, honest and caring person)
